Marriage
Marriage
Christian Marriage is the joining of a man and a woman in the sight of God and with His blessing. To give us joy, and so that children may thrive, God created male and female for each other, and gave us the gift of the covenant of marriage. God established marriage before the fall of humankind into sin. Marriage is a good gift of God, although sin can get in the way of always seeing marriage as a blessing. Marriage is not to be entered into inadvisably or lightly, but reverently, deliberately, and in accordance with the purposes for which it was instituted by God. Therefore, those who desire to be married are expected to meet with pastor for at least six sessions of pre-marital counseling. The first step to being married at Christ Lutheran Church, or by the pastor at a different location, is to contact the church office to arrange a meeting with pastor. Please note that the pastor reserves the right to conduct the ceremony of only those couples for whom one is a member of our congregation. Additional details about the wedding ceremony and usage of the church will be given at the first meeting with pastor.
Luther’s Small Catechism
HUSBANDS
Husbands, [in the same way] be considerate as you live with your wives, and treat them with respect as the weaker partner and as heirs with you of the gracious gift of life, so that nothing will hinder your prayers. […] Husbands, love your wives and do not be harsh with them. (See 1 Peter 3:7; Colossians 3:19.)
WIVES
Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord, like Sarah, who obeyed Abraham and called him her master. You are her daughters if you do what is right and do not give way to fear. (See Ephesians 5:22;l Peter 3:6.)
